Résumé : All wild pig species in Asia except wild boar (Sus scrofa) are classified as Vulnerable, Endangered or Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Many of those are regional or island endemics with very restricted ranges. African Swine Fever (ASF) poses a severe threat especially to Asian wild pig populations, in the wild and under human care, as they are immunologically naïve to the virus. Mortality is usually above 95%. These guidelines should support the prevention and management of ASF in Asian wild pig populations under human care. We recommend teams working with ex situ populations of wild pigs to consider the following preventive measures: Inform yourself and your staff about ASF and communicate the risk of ASF to ensure high levels of awareness among your staff and others, such as suppliers, craftspeople or visitors that enter your facility. Develop and implement protocols and measures to prevent an ASF outbreak in your facility, considering national and international regulations and guidelines. Develop protocols and prepare measures for your staff to react appropriately to a potential outbreak in your facility. Share your protocols with all necessary stakeholders, especially the relevant authorities. Communicate and inform colleagues and other facilities with wild pigs as well as the necessary authorities when a potential outbreak of ASF in your facility occurs. Share adaptations of your protocol as well as “lessons learnt” with all relevant stakeholders, colleagues, other facilities and authorities. Familiarise yourself with your national ASF reporting and response measures of the relevant national authorities, whether these are wildlife departments, veterinary departments or agriculture.
