Résumé : This chapter provides state-of-the-art information to the reader with an overview on the trends, advances, and perspectives in vaccines and vaccinology against fastidious microorganisms such as eukaryotic protozoans and aims to obligate intracellular Rickettsiales. Bovine anaplasmosis is caused by the obligate intracellular bacterium A. marginale and transmitted by hematophagous arthropods including ticks and hematophagous dipteral. The chapter describes the main classes of veterinary protozoal and rickettsial vaccine designs and outlines the composition and performance of several vaccines. Two main strategies have been used to develop vaccines against babesiosis: live attenuated and subunit vaccines. The chapter also provides a brief description of what is known about the immune responses triggered by different vaccine candidates for each pathogen. Host immune responses to anti-Babesia vaccines involve several factors. It is important to integrate different approaches to improve the bulk of information available to vaccine developers.
