Résumé : A total of 129 rice varieties were registered in Italy at the National Catalogue at the beginning of 2001. Every year about 10 new cultivars enter the market with the purpose to satisfy new market niches or to fight against specific crop limitations. In a period in which Europe need to be competitive with world markets there is a need to strengthen the efforts on variety characterisation and precise identification. The present work wants to be a contribution to the use of molecular markers to the identification and comparison among 95 rice cultivars stored in an italian bank of germplasm. The possibility to work with material of different origin gave us the chance to make consideration on effective use of molecular tools on biodiversity analysis.
