Résumé : After hulling or whitening, fonio grains are mixed with finely ground husks and bran. As the grains are extremely small, separating the grain from the impurities is difficult and cannot be done using the simple winnowing devices often mounted on huller outlets. To completely mechanize the first stage of fonio processing, it was therefore essential to design a winnowing device adapted to the particular characteristics of the cereal. The article describes the search and selection of a principle for cleaning fonio based on pneumatic separation, the development of a first model of a winnowing channel that could be produced by equipment manufacturers in the fonio region itself, and the testing of this model.
