Résumé : EU-15 banana consumption in 2004 was practically identical to that of 2003, i.e. 4.1 million tonnes. The ten new member-states accounted for between 460 000 and 567 000 tonnes for the full year. The quotas for third countries-ACP or not-were used to the full. Intracommunity trade changed the situation considerably and made it difficult to examine the supplies shipped to EU-25. It is nonetheless true that the enlarged EU is the world's leading banana consumption zone, way ahead of the United States. Enlargement set aside, the market shares of the main types of origin were respected. When enlargement is included, the presence of dollar origins increases considerably and per capita consumption decreases.
