Résumé : This chapter focuses on the innovative schemes of two rural supermarket stores in the Limpopo Province of South Africa to source fresh vegetables locally from individual small-scale farmers. We gathered data during 2006 using semi-structured personal interviews with the store owners and managers. We also interviewed a sample of small-scale vegetable farmers who currently supply the two stores, or who used to do so. We did a follow-up survey in June 2007 to enrich our qualitative data with further quantitative observations.
